Is Judaism composed of many small religions or o Essay Example For Students

Is Judaism made out of numerous little religions or o Essay ne fundamental religion? Judaism or Judaisms? It has been contended that Judaism can be considered not to be as a solitary religion, yet as a gathering of comparable religions. It has likewise been called attention to that through all the hardships that Judaism has endured, that there have been basic topics that have demonstrated omni-unavoidable. Any establishment with roots as old and differed as the religion of the Jews will undoubtedly have a couple of varieties, particularly when the greater part of its history happens in the political and religious problem area of the Middle East. In this conversation, numerous aspects of Judaism will be analyzed, principally in the three worldly developments marked the Tribal/Pre-Monarchy Period, the Divided Monarchy, and the Hasmonean/Maccabean and Roman Era. Among all the timeframes where the religion has been part, these three appear to be the most delegate of the powers dependable. Concerning an ongoing theme seen all through all Judiasms, the zone of center here is the spot related with the religion : Jerusalem. This theme will be shrouded in detail first, and afterward the various Judaism contentions will be introduced. Along these lines, it is conceivable to remember a typical center when finding out pretty much the various circumstances where the religion has gotten itself. A short end follows the conversation. A Place to Call Home No other religion has ever been so appended to its origination as Judaism. Maybe this is on the grounds that Jews have been ousted and confined from this spot for a large portion of their history. Jerusalem isn't just home to Judaism, yet to the Muslim and Christian religions also. Generally this has made it a significant occupied spot for the different gatherings. Jerusalem is the place the sanctuary of the Jews once stood; the main spot in general Earth where one could leave the limits of everyday life and draw nearer to God. In 586 BCE when the sanctuary was crushed, no Jew would have denied Jerusalem similar to the geographic focus of the religion. Starting there on, the Jewish individuals have moved far and wide, yet not one of them overlooks the way that Jerusalem is the place everything started. It is really a hallowed spot, and assists with characterizing what Judaism intends to numerous individuals; a repeating theme to go through all the different splinters of the religion and help hold them together. Indeed, even today, as the Jewish individuals have their valuable Jerusalem back (through the assistance of different countries and their legislative issues) there is extraordinary clash and feeling encompassing it. Different countries and individuals in the zone feel that they ought to be in charge of the famous city, and the Jews deny intensely any endeavor to wrestle it from their occupation. The facts confirm that there is no sanctuary in Jeruslaem today, nor are for the most part the Jews on the planet racing to get back there. However, it is clear that the city speaks to more to the religion of Judaism than an insignificant spot to live and work. The city of Jerusalem is a profound focal point, and all through Judaisms long and fluctuated history, this single actuality has never showed signs of change. Innate/Pre-Monarchy Judaisms establishes lie far back in the beginnings of written history. The religion didn't spring into reality precisely as today is known, rather it was pushed and goaded by different ecological factors en route. One of the main significant impacts on the religion was the Canaanite country. Different speculations exist with respect to how and when the individuals that would later be called Jews went into this development. Yet, paying little heed to how they at last arrived, these pioneers of the new confidence were exposed to a considerable lot of the thoughts and biases of the time. Any new society that winds up in a current social circumstance, can do close to attempt to incorporate into that system. What's more, this is actually what the Jews did. Macbeth versus Hamlet Essay The Jewish common war was against the extraordinary Hellenizers (individuals who inclined toward absolute explanation in their convictions) and the moderate Hellenizers (individuals who can see things objectively, however accept there are a bigger number of things to consider than this ex. the Maccabean family, who turned into the Hasmonean rulers). So immediately, it is clear that the thoughts that the Greeks brought into Jewish culture have gone about as time-bombs of social images, and have made a significant part in the religion. At the point when the viciousness of the war has died down, the moderate Hellenizers have won (everything with some restraint!) and rule for a brief timeframe, until the Roman domain assaults and tosses much more wrinkles into the Jewish society. At the point when the Romans assume control over, the Hasmonean lords are left set up as manikin rulers, which at last powers everyone to scrutinize their administering body. At the point when the Romans devastate the sanctuary in Jerusalem, it is made agonizingly evident that a few changes will be made. Generally self-evident, the ministers out of nowhere have no significant job in the religion. Their basic role had been to keep an eye on the yielding of creatures, and since it is illicit to forfeit a creature outside the sanctuary, the ministers were in a disrupting position. As can be seen in incalculable different models, governmental issues and religion are constantly tied, and individuals started rehearsing their own kinds of Judaism after their human progress had been so profoundly changed. Now ever, there is actually no strong principle to forestall such parts, and for a period a blended type of Judaism in with numerous assortments thrives. Nobody was certain what to do once the core of Judaism (the sanctuary) had been annihilated, however it before long became obvious that an engaging choice was emerging. Two significant social gatherings of the timespan were competing for power. The principal gathering, the Saducees were related with the dislodged Hasmonean rulers. The subsequent gathering, the Pharisees, had a thought that would help work around the appalling annihilation of the sanctuary. Individuals were part, indeed. They could remain with the customary Saducees (who had the political force, put stock in just composed Torah, and didn't buy in to restoration essentially a traditionalist view), or they could agree with the newcomers, the Pharisees (who had strict force, had faith in both the composed and the oral Torah, and put stock in revival) and would like to safeguard their Jewish legacy by venerating outside of the sanctuary, in their regular day to day existence. It was anything but a hard choice, and the Pharisees in the long run picked up power, driving the Jewish religion into its next period of Rabbinic Judaism. It is evident that in every one of the three timespans talked about over that numerous groups of a similar religion were dynamic. Contending ways of thinking, outside political powers, and geographic detachment are among the most clear of the separating powers. Anyway numerous different impacts pound every single day on a given social foundation, unobtrusively shaping it and transforming it into something it was definitely not. Hence, the response to the discussion whether Judaism is a solitary, or different religion(s) is an undeniable one, contingent on how you decide to take a gander at it. Each religion has numerous pieces, however as long as there are a couple of constants, (for example, the origination, the language, writing, and so forth) it is conceivable to see the entire as a solitary power, and still recognize varieties that will definitely jump up.

ADDICTION AND OBSESSION - 1925 Words

ADDICTION AND OBSESSION (Research Paper Sample) Content: ADDICTION AND OBSESSION Name: Institution: Professor: Course: Date: ADDICTION AND OBSESSION Addiction can loosely be defined to mean dependence on something or someone whereas obsession is a preoccupation which is given great preference and that negatively affects an individual in most ways. This is because their withdrawal leads to undesired, both physiological and psychological, problems (Carnes, 2001). Sex obsession, therefore, is a preoccupation that inclines an individual to sexual feelings and dependencies that makes one addicted to sexual activities such as engaging in sex acts and subscribing pornographic materials like videos and magazines (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004). Several indicators can be used to show that one is addicted and/or obsessed to sex. These can be emotional or physical depending on the origin and effects of the addiction. People addicted to sex always have some sense of euphoria which can even go beyond that which has been reported by most people (Carnes, 1991). Sex addiction can also be traced to oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s family of origin since most sex addicts come from dysfunctional families. Also, most of the sex addicts have been reported to be people who had been once been sexually abused as children. Moreover, addiction to sex can be influenced by oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s peers. A company one maintains will greatly affect aspects of his/her sexuality, including addiction and obsession to pornography (Collins and Adleman, 2011). Sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes and HIV are common among sex addicts. This greatly affects the children in most of the families since HIV is one of the killer diseases today (Laasar, 2004). Children can be left orphaned at tender ages which also expose them to greater risks since they can be sexually abused by other sexual predators. Children are mostly affected by quarrels between their parents due to the addiction. They are also able to observe and tell the parent who is contributing the most to their well-being. That way, they may develop negative attitude towards the one recovering from sex addiction (Canning, 2010). An environment of disarray therefore surrounds the child. This can cause abandonment and low self à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å"esteem among the children (Carnes, 2001). With sexual diseases, a lot of resources are usually spent treating and managing them. Sex addicts who contract diseases spend much of their fortunes to stay healthy. Their families, too, will contribute to ensure that the well-being of their loved ones is improved. Eventually, much will be spent without necessary obtaining the desired situation (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004). This is because advanced stages of sexual diseases, such syphilis, can lead to uncomfortable mental problems. Spending heavily on such people will affect other areas such as providing school fees for the children (Canning, 2010). Sex addiction and obsession often lead to further financial crises. Individuals involved usually spent a lot to either purchase pornographic materials or procure services of sexual partners. Money is always spent to purchase sex related materials and on entertainment that come with engaging in this act. Therefore, sex addicts can incur debts to ensure that they satisfy their desires. They may con or rob so as to facilitate their addictions (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004; Collins and Adleman, 2011). Some family break-ups and separations are as a result of sex addictions. This arises when one of the couple loses interest in relational sex due to increasing sexual interests. In most cases, the addict does not realize that their behavior has affected their loved ones (Wilson, 2007). This leads to the spouses developing unhealthy skills to strive and cope with the addictà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s behaviors and sexual moods. Opportunities to do things together as a family thus become fewer as the addiction progresses (Steffens and Means, 2009). Effects of sex addiction in families can also be physical since some sex addicts might use abusive techniques in their sexual acts. Partners may also be subjected to unwanted physical touching in their private parts by the sex addicts. This can cause physical harm to one of the spouses and can lead to divorce (Steffens and Means, 2009). Sex addicts can also force their spouses to engage in unwanted sexual behavior and if they fail physical consequences may be subjected to them. Sexual addicts may even rape so as to satisfy their urge (Collins and Adleman, 2011). Sex addicts hardly progress in life. They spend their lifetime earnings to quench addiction. Such people often get in to one scandal after the other. In fact, those in high profile jobs risk termination if their sex addiction compromises the reputation and ethics code of their employer (Collins and Adleman, 2011). Friendship is also one important aspect of oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life. Friends are critical for the development of personalities; they shape behaviours, attitudes, and perspectives of the people they relate with. Often, the circles of friends people keep tell a lot about them. Sex addiction and obsession usually reduces friends (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004). When this happens, sex addicts tend to feel lonely and disowned. In a solitary life, without one to reach for support, the addicts may tend to develop suicidal thoughts (Laasar, 2004). Strength-based Support and Strategies for Assisting the Sex Addicts Rehabilitation is important when assisting sexual addicts. For rehabilitation to be successful, sex addicts must admit their problem. In rehabilitation centers, other interventions such as faith-based treatment, psychotherapy, and counseling may be coupled together so as to achieve maximum results (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004; Wilson, 2007). Support groups can be used to help those with sexual addiction. This is because support is the most crucial part of treatment that can greatly help in improving oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s chances of recovering from sex addiction (Carnes, 1991). Support can come from a friend or a family member whom one can talk to or call when he/she has the desire for sex. Moreover, by sharing the problem with others, it is possible to reduce depression that has been documented to be among the causes of sex addiction (Laasar, 2004). If the triggers to sexual addiction are confined to a specific area, it is best for the addicts to avoid them. For instance, internet leads to obsession of pornographic materials. Such a trigger can be eliminated by avoiding computers and the internet or by avoiding pornographic magazines that causes an even bigger sex addiction problem (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Donohue and Sbraga, 2004). Some sexual addicts can be counseled. Through counseling, such individuals get to be informed on the dangers that their habit exposes them to and the burden their loved ones have to endure as a result (Wilson, 2007). Most addicts that would be termed beginners are easily helped through professional counseling sessions. Counseling is also important for family, and any other individual who might be affected by the behaviour of the sex addict (Canning, 2010). Sex addicts ca...

The Ecuadorian Story of Cantuña and the Devil

Everyone in Quito, Ecuador, knows the story of Cantuà ±a: it is one of the citys most beloved legends. Cantuà ±a was an architect and builder who made a deal with the Devil †¦ but got out of it through trickery. The Atrium of San Francisco Cathedral In downtown Quito, about two blocks away from the center of the old colonial city, is Plaza San Francisco, an airy plaza popular with pigeons, strollers, and those who want a nice outdoor cup of coffee. The western side of the plaza is dominated by the San Francisco Cathedral, a massive stone building and one of the first churches built in Quito. It’s still open and is a popular place for locals to hear mass. There are different areas of the church, including an old convent and an atrium, which is an open area just inside the cathedral. It is the atrium that is central to the story of Cantuà ±a. Cantuà ±a’s Task According to legend, Cantuà ±a was a native builder and architect of great talent. He was hired by the Franciscans sometime during the early colonial era (construction took more than 100 years but the church was completed by 1680) to design and build the atrium. Although he worked diligently, it was slow going and it soon became apparent that he would not finish the project on time. He wished to avoid this, as he would not be paid at all if it were not ready on a certain date (in some versions of the legend, Cantuà ±a would go to jail if the atrium was not completed on time). A Deal With the Devil Just as Cantuà ±a despaired of completing the atrium on time, the Devil appeared in a puff of smoke and offered to make a deal. The Devil would finish the work overnight and the atrium would be ready on time. Cantuà ±a, of course, would part with his soul. The desperate Cantuà ±a accepted the deal. The Devil called in a large band of worker demons and they spent the whole night building the atrium. A Missing Stone Cantuà ±a was pleased with the work but naturally began to regret the deal he had made. While the Devil was not paying attention, Cantuà ±a leaned over and pried loose a stone out of one of the walls and hid it. As dawn broke on the day the atrium was to be given to the Franciscans, the Devil eagerly demanded payment. Cantuà ±a pointed out the missing stone and claimed that since the Devil had not fulfilled his end of the deal, the contract was void. Foiled, the angry Devil disappeared in a puff of smoke. Variations on the Legend There are different versions of the legend that differ in small details. In some versions, Cantuà ±a is the son of the legendary Inca General Rumià ±ahui, who foiled the Spanish conquistadors by hiding the gold of Quito (also allegedly with the help of the Devil). According to another telling of the legend, it was not Cantuà ±a who removed the loose stone, but an angel sent to help him. In yet another version, Cantuà ±a did not hide the stone once he removed it but instead wrote upon it something to the effect of Whoever picks up this stone acknowledges that God is greater than he. Naturally, the Devil would not pick up the stone and was, therefore, prevented from fulfilling the contract. Visiting San Francisco Church The San Francisco Church and convent are open daily. The cathedral itself is free to visit, but there is a nominal fee to see the convent and museum. Fans of colonial art and architecture will not want to miss it. Guides will even point out a wall inside the atrium that is missing a stone: the very spot where Cantuà ±a saved his soul!

After almost three years of anticipation and excitement, fans can now finally listen to the entire self-titled debut album â€Å"Tuxedo† by Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, an album almost eight years in the making.Mayer Hawthorne, a 36 year-old soul singer and producer, and Jake One, a 38 year-old hip-hop producer, first met in 2006 in Seattle. They both exchanged mixtapes and quickly realized that they shared a common love for the old funk and disco of the late 70s and early 80s.Since then, the duo has slowly but surely pieced together a 12 track album that takes you back in time into the world of smooth soul and disco-funk. The album kicks off it’s journey with hip-hop influenced â€Å"Lost Lover†, Jakes synthesizes and strings immediately stand out and Hawthornes vocals set the tone for the rest of the album.Soon after the album starts, â€Å"R U Ready† takes over, and whether you’re ready or not, it instantly gets your body moving and is definitely one of the best cuts on the whole record. For their ninth track, Hawthorne and One pull out a powerful horn section and group of back up vocalists to perform an effortlessly funky jam called â€Å"Roll Along†.This is smoothly ended and â€Å"Get U Home† is soon heard succeeding it.Many consider it Mayers best vocal performance and it comes with a magnetizing ending performed by the horn section. To finish off the album, â€Å"Do It† and â€Å"Number One† deliver a one-two knock-out punch.â€Å"Do It† is undoubtedly a centerpiece for the entire record and deserves to be a top 40 hit this summer.Hawthorne and One give it their all on this track nothing else on the album makes you groove the way that â€Å"Do It† does. From the very first track, it’s easy to see that the albums main theme is dancing, the widely unknown duo keeps your body moving and recreates the disco vibes of the 70s/80s almost perfectly. The album stays true to the sounds of old while also making it sound brand new. This album is perfect for anyone who enjoys soul and or hip-hop, it’s insanely funky and the production is out of this world.I have no regrets purchasing this album and I don’t think you will either.

The Law of Sexual Harassment Essay Abstract Sexual harassment is a very popular case that has taken place ever since in the 1960s. As time goes by and with the law slowly changing, more cases of sexual harassment were acknowledged by the courts. There are two types of sexual harassment, namely quid pro quo and hostile work environment, and it has been a shared burden among the judges the difficulty in drawing a fine line between them. However, quid pro quo cases are harder to win because the criteria is very straightforward. That is why most cases are being passed as hostile work environment because this type has a broader scope. We will write a custom essay on The Law of Sexual Harassment specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Sexual harassment cases vary in themselves. There is a case of a female employer harassing her male employee, a sexual harassment taking place without the knowledge of the employer, and a case where it is actually a no-case at all. Nevertheless, the discussion is still in the context to analyze the legal differences between quid pro quo and hostile work environment. Introduction Sexual harassment has been fogging nearly every workplace across the U.S. It was already a problem happening in most companies one generation ago, but was not acknowledged to be one because the court treated such matters to be private and personal (Cloud, 1998). Now, sexual harassment cases have made its way to the law and something that most employers will never dare to meddle with. In this paper, I will examine the legal differences between two legal aspects of sexual harassment, quid pro quo and hostile work environment, by examining some several court cases as guidance. But before that, I would like to get into a little bit of the background of sexual harassment in the U.S. Brief History of Sexual Harassment Sexual harassment has been around ever since in the 1980s. However, its was not until 1986 did the Supreme Court finally rule that sexual harassment violated the prohibition against sex discrimination, despite the guidelines provided by EEOC in 1980 for sexual harassment to be categorized under sex discrimination This decision was resulted from Vinson vs. Meritor Savings Bank case, which I will go into deeper in later paragraphs. Nevertheless, this decision still did not give the clear guideline as to what constituted hostile work environment and what constituted quid pro quo, to be able for cases to be acknowledged as a sexual harassment case (Lee, 1995). Quid Pro Quo Quid pro quo simply means that if you give something that your boss wants from you, he/she will give you something in return, usually a promotion or a raise in your salary. Sometimes, it is also known as sexual extortion (Lee, 1995). For a case to be acknowledged as quid pro quo, the harasser has to be either the employer or in the management team. Not only that, if the harasser is in the management team, the owner of the company will be held liable even though he has no knowledge of the harassment (Blackwell, 1995). Quid pro quo cases are very hard to be proven as one. A generation ago, not even the most obvious case of quid pro quo would be considered as one by many court judges. The reason behind this was because they felt that such matters were personal. It did not help the situation at all that at that time most of the judges were males (Cloud, 1998). However, the situation improved slowly in the 1960s. It was not until in 1977 that the U. S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that quid pro quo harassment is a form of sex discrimination. Even better, in the 1990s, George Bush signed a law that grants sexual harassment plaintiffs the right to jury trials and big-money damages (Cloud, 1998). Nevertheless, despite the change, quid pro quo cases were still very difficult to win. For an instance, Mechelle Vinson, who worked as a teller at Meritor Savings Bank in the 1970s, was forced by her boss into having a sex relationship with him. She finally gave in, even though she was under a lot of pressure, even at work, where her boss would sometimes touch her sexually and there were occasions when he actually raped her. .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .postImageUrl , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:hover , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:visited , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:active { border:0!important; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:active , .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf98707b890d6b4f2dedeb8f722171c7d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Homosexual Parenting Essay It was not long .

12 important points to keep in mind while writing MBA application essays

12 important points to keep in mind while writing MBA application essays Test scores and grades are important, but admissions to business school is about more than getting good numbers. To compete successfully with a large group of high quality applicants, put in the work to assure that your essays are outstanding. After over fourteen years helping applicants with thousands of MBA application essays as an MBA admissions consultant, a dozen important points stand out as key to keep in mind when writing these key essays: 1. Answer what was asked. Surprisingly, most applicants think they answered the question asked but did not. Writing MBA application essays is a new challenge for most applicants, who have no basis on which to gauge their answers. An experienced MBA Admissions Consultant can help ensure you havent missed the mark. 2. â€Å"I’ll just write a few common essays, and use them for all my applications.†A typical MBA school requires a set of several essays, ranging from one to as many as ten for some European business schools. Top US b-schools typically require four or five essays. Many schools ask questions which have similar elements but are not exactly the same. To be competitive, each essay needs to be carefully answered as it is asked, which means school by school. And if you do use the same essay twice, be careful to change the school name everywhere, since many applicants overlook thata sure application killer! 3. Stay on track! As you add details about an example, it often becomes harder and harder to follow the line of your thoughts. The school wants to learn about you, not about the situations you’ve been in. Take the readers by the hand and guide them through to keep the focus on your main point, only sharing details that support that point. 4. Put extra effort into the question about your career. Be sure you powerfully portray your short-term and long-term career goals; how an MBA will fill any existing gaps between where you are now and reaching those goals; and (if asked) the level of research you’ve done to match the school’s unique offerings to your future career. Be careful to not simply restate your resume in detail herea common pitfall in many first drafts. 5. â€Å"I’m way over the word limit but there’s nothing that I can cut out!† Schools evaluate your ability to write concisely. An admissions consultant will help you focus on whats important and what isnt so you can stay under the word limit. Don’t give the admissions staff an easy way to choose someone else over you because you ignored the school’s word or page limit instructions! 6. â€Å"I changed my career goals for one school because that school is known for finance, whereas the other schools focus on marketing.† It is a huge mistake to completely change your answers based on what you think a school wants to hear. Schools are looking to understand the real you. It is true that certain characteristics are important for all applicants, such as leadership potential and communication skills. But more than anything else, schools are looking to admit diverse classes. If you try to change yourself to be what you think a school wants, you may be surprised to learn that they already had too many who fit that description and that your unique characteristics were exactly what they were looking for. 7. Do not use overly sophisticated language. Many overdo it, trying to impress a school, but it comes out reading stilted. Stay real and conversational. 8. Your essays should show Leadership, leadership, leadership. The number one quality to emphasize in your essays is leadership. Tell the admissions committee what your unique flavor of leader is. What doyour friends and colleagues say your greatest leadership talents are? Identify these skills as specifically as possible, and support them with examples from your professional (and possibly personal) life. 9. Don’t use examples of your experience prior to college. Schools will think you dont have anything worth talking about since then, and they dont want to admit people who did not (and will not) continue to achieve great things! 10. Never ask anyone, including an admissions consultant, to write essays for you. Schools will automatically reject you if it appears that you didnt write your own essays. 11. Never lie. Even if your personal ethics would allow you to lie in an application, you may be caught at some point, especially with schools now carefully checking out details. Never lie! 12. Never send in any essays with typos, spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. No one is perfect, but sending in essays with typos, misspelled words, or grammatical errors can give an admissions officer an easy way to rule you out. Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, And The Aeneid Essay

a. Gods and goddesses intervention plays a key role in many of the stories, including The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, and The Aeneid. Apollo, god of sun and art, intervenes multiple times in The Iliad. He is known for sending the plague to the Greeks. Aruru, goddess of creation, made Gilgamesh and Enkidu in The Epic of Gilgamesh. Aeolus, god of wind, is persuaded by Juno, goddess of marriage, to build a storm. 2. Discuss the importance of the "voices of reason" in three of the stories. (Who or what group emerges that seems to be more rational than the stories ' characters?) a. â€Å"Voice of reason† is important in many stories including The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Song of Roland, and _____. Gilgamesh is a cruel king. He rapes women of all ages and does whatever it takes to get his way. If the men of Uruk had not complained about Gilgamesh then Enkidu would not have been created. Throughout the Song of Roland Oliver suggested that Roland blow the olifant but Roland refused. Although Roland’s actions did result in his death, Oliver knew it was what needed to happen. Oliver was the voice of reason throughout the story. 3. Discuss the theme of strength (inner or outer) in three of the stories. Use specific examples to support your answer. a. The theme of strength can be seen in many stories including Confession, The Song of Roland, and . St. Augustine had behavioral problems as a child but as he grew older became more mature. During his later years he finds the inner strength and courage to believe in God and put all of his faith into Him. Roland’s strength in The Song of Rolarent stories or the same story. a. Three symbols are the ark, olifant, and the inferno. In The Hebrew Bible, God commanded Noah to build an ark. The ark symbolizes God’s promise to Noah and all of the Israelites. The olifant in The Song of Roland is what kills Roland. It symbolizes his death. Dante’s Inferno includes many symbols. The story itself symbolizes one’s spiritual search. 10. What was your favorite story or character? Give at least three specific reasons/examples to support your answer. a. My favorite character was Joseph. Joseph’s brothers hated him very much and because of that they sold him to the Ishmaelites. Even though Joseph’s early years were not pleasant that did not stop him from believing in God. He kept the faith. He is such an inspiration to many because of his love for God. We can learn from him that if we put faith in God we can become a su

Haemato-oncology practice Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Haemato-oncology practice - Assignment Example Describe the pathology of severe sepsis and providing a clear rationale, discuss the immediate management of severe sepsis Sepsis and septic shock occur as a result of complex interaction between the pathogenic agent and the immune system of the host. During any localized infection, the normal physiologic response includes host defense activation resulting in influx of the monocytes and activated neutrophils, local vasodilation, release of inflammatory mediators, increased permeability of the endothelium and activation of coagulation pathways. In septic shock, these mechanisms further proceed to diffuse endothelial disruption, increased vascular permeability, thrombosis of end-organ capillaries and vasodilation. Damage to the endothelium further leads to activation of coagulation and inflammatory cascades leading to positive feedback loop which further causes end-organ and endothelial damage (Pinsky, 2011). The pathogenic agents induce exaggerated systemic inflammatory response. Due to systemic inflammatory response, imbalance of homeostasis occurs leading to disseminated intravascular coagulation, microthrombosis, organ dysfunction and even death(Pinsky, 2011). The first step in the management of shock is to evaluate and stabilize airway, breathing and circulation. This includes intubation and mechanical ventilation if necessary. 100% oxygen must be given at a high flow rate in all cases. The saturations and other vital signs must be monitored continuously using cardio-respiratory monitor. To improve circulation, a good intravenous access must be secured. If it is difficult to access peripheral lines, central venous veins or intra-osseous lines must be accessed. Intravenous fluids and if necessary, vasopressors and cardiac ionotropic agents must be given. The intravenous fluids used for resuscitation are crystalloids like normal saline and Ringer's lactate. The initial dose given is 20ml per kg as bolus over 5 minutes. This dose may be repeated if required. Th ereafter, the fluids are given based on the maintenance requirements and losses. Appropriate intravenous antibiotics must be started. Initial laboratory work-up includes complete blood counts, serum electrolytes, renal parameters, liver function tests, chest radiography and arterial blood gas analysis. Calcium, sodium bicarbonate and steroids are given as required. The management of shock is tailored to the cause and the stage of shock. In the irreversible stage, the cellular and tissue injuries cannot be reversed despite hemodynamic correction. There is widespread cellular injury as a result of lysosomal leakage. The damage is evident in organs like brain, heart, kidneys, adrenals and gastrointestinal tract. In the heart, nitric oxide synthesis occurs and myocardial contractile function worsens. There may be wide-spread coagulation necrosis, subendocardial haemorrhage or contraction band necrosis (Claessens and Dhainaut, 2007). Structured Reflection Reflective practice is essential to clinical practice and provides a retrospective look at current practice and questions the reason for doing so. It is a good way of learning and it enables the practitioner to assess, understand and learn through their experiences (Burns and Grove 1997). In the following assignment, I shall discuss about a patient with cancer related septic shock based on Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This is because, Gibbs Reflective Cycle is a straight

Sustainable tourism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Sustainable tourism - Essay Example Positive impacts According to Honey (1999), tourism is a source of employment for many people who serve in the tourist hotels, tourist travel agencies or serve as tour guides and local traders. This is very important in a country with low agricultural viability and is not a major producer of any valuable mineral or oil. It is also a direct market for locally produced commodities for example artefacts, clothing and foodstuff while tourist hotels form a good market for locally produced agricultural products. Some of the Tourists are potential investors and this increases the chances of a country getting more foreign investment. Tourism stimulates decentralised development because governments will have to ensure that major tourist destinations within the country are developed. These include infrastructure development and rural electrification. Whenever tourists start visiting a country, the people start to realise the importance and economic potentialities of their available resources f or example wildlife, water bodies, coastal regions and culture. This motivates them to preserve these resources and hence a protection of an environment which could have been exploitative by man in various ways. This results to biodiversity preservation and preservation of the environment’s natural beauty (Prem1995).

Cinema and Religion Essay -- Religious Religion Culture Essays

Cinema and Religion Entertainment media are contributing to the emergence of new and novel forms of spiritual and religious phenomena in our contemporary (and past) culture. The essays in this issue explore diverse facets of the morphing relationship between entertainment, spirituality and culture. Over the last century, the cinema has played a vital role in the expression and representation of Judeo-Christian religious practices and beliefs. Early cinema told the life of Christ in the Passion Play and Cecil B DeMille produced two spectacular versions of The Ten Commandments in 1923 and 1956. While cinema represented religious themes and figures, religious institutions also shaped the emergence of this moving image technology and its role within Western society; the wondrous moving image provided by the cinematrographe could open the viewer’s eyes to the work of God or, somewhat paradoxically, do the Devil's work by deceiving them with its illusionary spectacles. Two significant changes in this relationship between cinema and religion are occurring in our Post-millennial era. Firstly, the cinema is now participant in a complex audio-visual and textual culture that includes both established and emerging media – a Multiverse created from computer games, comic books, television programs, theme parks, virtual reality technologies and other new media. Secondly, traditional forms of religious practices and spiritual beliefs are shifting from their familiar locations in the church and community. Once, the cinema was seen as analogous to the Church because it provided a sacred space of worship. Now, however, the theme park, the computer game and cyberspace are the realms for an emerging Post-Millennial spirituality. We need to... ...rent media that shape and inform the fantastic and the spiritual in Western culture: from Francis I, C16th King of France who, reflecting a nascent version of the media star, constructed himself as a figure of worship; to the landscapes of Stephen King story worlds that present the reader with uncanny, Gothic spaces and narrative scenarios that question the ‘normality’ of everyday reality; to the transcendental pursuits of the magician and magic lantern technology; or the worship-like experiences inherent to fan cultures. We are living in an era where cultural identities, beliefs, forms of religious community, models of consciousness and what it means to be human are being transfigured. In the light of this transfiguration this issue of Refractory considers the relationship between media, religion, and the fantastic; and the every day and the sacred and the uncanny.

Jane Eyre Character Essay

â€Å"The humblest individual exerts some influence, either for good or evil, upon others† said Henry Ward Beecher. Everyone has some type of influence on another, whether it is big or small, good or bad. For example, outside influences, such as other characters, can affect a characters actions and thoughts in either a positive or negative way. In the novel Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Bronte, many characters influenced Jane, but Mr. Rochester and St. John Rivers had the most influence on her personality. Although the two men were very different from one another, they both had an impact on Jane’s transformation into a strong and independent women thought their actions, love, and influence. Mr. Rochester differs greatly with St. John though their outlook on religious and moral beliefs. â€Å"I advise you to live sinless; and I wish you to die tranquil.† (p.398) Mr. Rochester is portrayed as a sinner because he did not inform Jane that he was still married to Bertha Mason. His desire to keep Jane at Thornfield as his mistress displayed his lack of morality. While Mr. Rochester is passionate and desperate, St. John is cold and determined. St. John’s somber personality is made clear when he said, â€Å"I want a wife: the sole helpmeet I can influence efficiently in life and retain absolutely till death. (p.506) St. John, unlike Mr. Rochester, followed religious principles and moral values. These two men are both the most influential males in her life, but they are both so different from one another. Although Mr. Rochester and St. John had very different beliefs, they both brought out changes in Jane’s character. If Jane were to accept Rochester’s first proposal, she would had sacrificed her dignity for love. â€Å"I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself.† (p.398) Jane does not accept his proposal in marriage in order to preserve her self-esteem. This struggle with Rochester farther developed her morality and self-worth. In refusing his marriage proposal because he has a wife, she became morally superior to him. Jane was able to keep her moral value through sacrificing her feelings for what was right. St. John longed to marry Jane and invited her to accompany him on his missionary trip to India. He says, â€Å"God and nature intended you for a missionary’s wife. It is not personal, but mental endowments they have given you: you are formed for labor, not for love.† (p.502) St. John thought Jane would make a great missionary’s wife because of her morals. Jane replies saying, â€Å" Oh! I will give my heart to God, you do not want it.† (p.507) As the quote shows, if Jane was to accept St. John’s proposal, she knew she would be settling on someone that did not truly love her, nor did she truly love in return. Though this experience Jane realizes love can on be found in a relationship with mutual feelings. Therefore Jane denies St. Johns love for her and his marriage proposal. Through Jane’s obstacles throughout the novel, she overcame her weaknesses. The influences from both Mr. Rochester and St. John shaped her character, strengthened her moral principles, and taught her to make the right choices. With each situation Jane made the right decisions. The two men, although completely diverse from one another, they both played a vital role in Jane’s growth as a character.

Internet The Eyes Of A Router - 3830 Words

From The Eyes of a Router Router devices have become popular in the networking world today. Routers are devices that forward data packets along networks. Often, they are used for small to medium networks, and overall prove efficient for users. Routers are now considered vital to the internet as well as many home and small business networks. The Internet is one of the 20th century s best developments because it allows people worldwide to conduct e-mails and communicate back and forth in a timely manner, view web pages, make purchases, view videos, have live chat, and keep up to date with certain people on web pages such as Facebook. The internet is now considered a means of communication. Many people are all so accustomed to a computer†¦show more content†¦When one of the graphic designers sends a file to the other, the very large files will exhaust most of the network s volume, making the network operate very slowly for other users on the network. One reason that a single intensive user can affect an entire network deals with the way Ethernet works. Each packet of information sent from a computer is seen by all other computers on the local network. Each computer then has to verify the packet and decides whether it was intended for its address. This helps keep the straightforward idea of the network simple, but has performance issues as the size network size or level of network activity increases. To keep the graphic designers’ work from interfering with the production line computers, the business sets up two separate networks. One network is for the animators and other for the production line assistants. A router links these two networks and connects both networks to the Internet. The router is the only device which views every message sent by any computer on any network within a company. When one of the graphic designers sends a large file to the other graphic designer, the router checks the recipient s address and keeps the traffic on the graphic designer’s netw ork. But when a graphic designer sends a message to the production assistant’s e-mail in the other network, the router recognizes the recipient s address and forwards the message between the two networks to the correct
